The Coraopolis borough council voted Thursday toterminate a police partnership with ICE ([link removed]) following pushback from the community.
The town has seen a blossoming immigrant and Latino population in recent years, and entered into an agreement with the federal authorities in late December. Roughly 75 residents attended a tense council meeting Thursday ([link removed]) before the council voted, 4-3, to back out of the arrangement.
The borough’s police chief said ICE offered the police department financial incentives to cooperate.
