Hi friends,
I have something special to share today.
After months of conversations, listening sessions, town halls, coffee chats, and late nights banging out the details, I’m proud to officially announce the Michigan Hope Agenda.
This is my plan to grow our economy, create good-paying jobs, and break down the barriers that keep too many Michiganders, especially in communities of color, from accessing the opportunities they deserve.
But it’s more than a plan. It’s a promise. A love letter. And it’s deeply personal.
This agenda is built on what I’ve learned from the diverse communities I know and love – not just on the campaign trail, but throughout my life and career here in Michigan. It’s about putting my hand up to deliver real solutions for real people.
That’s the mindset I carried with me during the Great Recession, when I served as Chief of Staff on President Obama’s Auto Rescue. Together, we helped save 200,000 Michigan jobs at a time when our auto industry and our state were on the brink.
And it’s how I’ve served in Congress: fighting for working families, championing Michigan’s manufacturers, securing federal investments for historically underserved communities, and always showing up for the people who make this state run.
I love Michigan. And I know we can do more – not just survive, but thrive.
That’s what the Michigan Hope Agenda is all about.
It’s built on seven key pillars that came directly from conversations with Michiganders at kitchen tables, union halls, school gymnasiums, and church basements. Here they are:
🛠️ Equitable Federal Investment
Make sure federal dollars go where they’re needed most – to underserved communities that have been overlooked for too long.
📈 Economic Empowerment and Access
Back our small businesses, invest in workforce training, and build an industrial policy that creates jobs and lowers costs, especially in places that have been left behind.
🏘️ Safer Communities
Support prevention programs, fair and accountable policing, and commonsense gun safety laws that actually protect families.
💊 Health and Family Stability
Lower health care costs, protect science-based care, and ensure every Michigander can access the care they need with dignity.
📚 Education, Innovation, and the STEM Workforce
Prepare the next generation for the industries of the future, and make sure those jobs are rooted right here in Michigan.
🚰 Water and Infrastructure
Make clean, safe drinking water a right, not a privilege for the wealthy. No more lead pipes. No more PFAS. No more environmental injustice.
🏡 Affordable Housing
Increase housing supply and expand access to homeownership so families can build security, stability, and a better future.
If you’re thinking this sounds like a big vision, you’re right. But I know Michigan, and we’re up to the task.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about us.
It’s about every single Michigander who’s been left behind, pushed aside, or counted out. Every small-business owner trying to keep the lights on. Every parent who wants a better life for their child. Every community that’s been ignored or underfunded.
The Michigan Hope Agenda is for you.
It’s a blueprint to build a Michigan that works for everyone – not just the well-connected.
Yes, we’ve got work to do. But this is Michigan – let’s roll up our sleeves and get it done.
