I want to take a beat and talk.

Ayanna Pressley for Congress

It’s been a heavy week. To the family and loved ones of Renee Good — and everyone in Minnesota who is reeling from the violence of the escalating ICE presence in their community — my heart is with you.

I want to take a beat for a second and talk about what brought us to this point.

The reason ICE agents are descending on Minnesota is because of an unchecked “fraud” claim having to do with immigrants.

In fact, the Oversight Committee was conducting a hearing about it when we got word about the horrific murder of Renee Good by an ICE agent.

Let’s get one thing clear: Republicans don’t give a damn about fraud.

Trump pardoned George Santos, who defrauded voters and owed them $370,000 in restitution to victims.

He pardoned 1,500 January 6th insurrectionists who attacked police officers over a fraudulent claim that the election was stolen.

And he also pardoned corporations that committed fraud — like the crypto company BitMEX which violated US law and was fined $100 million.

Accountability means nothing to these hypocrites.

Shortly after the Oversight Committee found out about Renee Good’s murder, I moved to subpoena all records and footage related to the incident.

Every Republican voted it down.

They don’t care about fraud. They don’t care about accountability. They hide behind these perceived values while inflicting violence and harming our communities.

I’m going to continue doing everything I can to end qualified immunity for law enforcement officers so we can get accountability, abolish ICE, and call out this dangerous, hypocritical, and extreme administration on what they’re really doing. If you’re able, pitch in $25 or anything you can to power our work.

In solidarity,

Ayanna
