Dear John,

The day after Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota, Kristi Noem quietly enacted a policy to prevent Members of Congress from conducting Congressional oversight visits without seven days' notice.

When I attempted to conduct an oversight visit to the Whipple federal building last weekend alongside two of my Minnesota colleagues, I brought a physical copy of the federal court ruling that reaffirmed our right to conduct unannounced oversight visits. Unsurprisingly, the ICE officials still refused to allow us in. When I informed the officials that they were breaking the law by refusing us entry, they told me they didn’t care.

The Trump Administration wants us to ignore what we’ve seen with our own eyes and what we know to be true: that ICE has gone rogue in Minnesota and they’re making us all less safe. They’ve blatantly disregarded the pleas of the Governor, myself, local elected officials and local law enforcement to de-escalate the situation and remove ICE from Minnesota.

No matter how much they lie, I will not back down from holding this Administration accountable and doing everything in my power to protect Minnesotans.

Over the past two weeks, my office has received thousands of calls and letters from concerned Minnesotans. Two messages stood out: do not provide any further funding to ICE and impeach Kristi Noem.

I heard you loud and clear. There is no way in hell I will vote to give a single cent to Kristi Noem’s ICE. And this week, I introduced Articles of Impeachment against Kristi Noem.

Secretary Noem's ICE has gone far beyond the rule of law and terrorized the people of Minnesota, both citizens and non-citizens. It’s some of the most egregious behavior I have ever witnessed from any administration in my lifetime.

I want you all to exercise your constitutional rights but please be safe and peaceful as you do.

Here is what I’m doing to push back against Secretary Noem’s lawless DHS:

  • Introduced Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Noem;
  • Attempted to conduct a federal oversight visit at the Whipple federal building’s ICE detention facility;
  • Met with local leaders to discuss the impacts of recent ICE activities on our communities and small businesses;
  • Hosting an upcoming Know Your Rights panel for local and state leaders to get on the same page about how we can best help our communities;
  • Hosting and speaking at a field hearing today in Minnesota with Members of Congress and elected officials.

As always, my team is here to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if you need help with a federal agency or witness unjust interactions with immigration enforcement in our community. We are available at (651) 846-2120.

Until next time,
