Hi John,

Young people are rising up across the global south but this wave of revolts has barely been discussed here in Britain. Join We Rise next month, where we’re bringing together experts and activists to discuss the Gen Z revolutions that have recently swept across Asia and Africa.

This is a Global Justice Youth event – please share this email with any under 30s who you think may be interested.*

We Rise
When: Saturday 21 February 2026

Over the last two years, young protestors have toppled authoritarian governments in Bangladesh, Nepal and Madagascar while mass youth-led movements have shaken undemocratic regimes including in Tanzania, Kenya and Indonesia.

A whole generation is refusing to accept the inequality, corruption and lack of opportunities that a corporate-led globalisation has created. They have bravely faced state violence, found creative ways to communicate and organise amongst virtual social media blackouts and formed alliances across society.

Young activists in Britain can learn so much from these global south uprisings. That’s why we’re putting together an exciting panel on the Gen Z Revolutions with leading activists and analysts at We Rise 2026, our annual youth gathering.

We’ll be joined by:
  • Pallavi Pundir, journalist and analyst of the revolutions
  • Professor Paul Routledge, scholar of South Asian social movements
  • A Nepali organiser with first-hand experience of the uprisings

This panel is just one part of a packed programme at We Rise that will reflect on the last year of youth-led resistance and plan how we can make 2026 a year of global justice. We will be joined by international speakers to discuss how we can beat the rising global far right, hearing from local activists at the frontlines of the battle against fossil fuels and corporate courts and hosting a workshop on how young people can keep up the pressure against British complicity in Israel’s apartheid and genocide.

Confirmed speakers, with more to be announced:
  • Rahila Gupta, chair of Southall Black Sisters and co-author of Planet Patriarchy: Global Tales of Feminism and Oppression
  • Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now and author of Pharmanomics: How Big Pharma Destroys Global Health
  • Keir Milburn, co-director of Abundance thinktank, author of Generation Left and Radical Abundance: How to Win a Green Democratic Future
  • Alyssa Elliott, founder of Indivisible London, campaigner against the Trump regime
We Rise is for anyone under 30 who believes that another world is possible. With a wide range of sessions, political education and collaborative workshops, there’s something for everyone and we’re delighted to offer travel and accommodation subsidies. Check out some of the photos from last year's event on this Instagram post.
