This is a situation I frankly never thought I’d find myself in.

In the early 2000s, I was recruited into the CIA and served three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military, working to understand terrorist and militia groups that were targeting U.S. forces and plotting against the homeland.

If you had told me that twenty years later the President of the United States would be calling for me to be investigated, arrested, and hanged -- and that his FBI and Department of Justice would be following up on his anger, I would have said you were out of your mind.

But here we are...

Sadly, we have a President of the United States who believes in weaponizing the federal government against his perceived enemies and does not believe laws apply to him or his Cabinet. He uses legal harassment as an intimidation tactic to scare people out of speaking up. He’s done it to law firms, universities, private sector companies, politicians, and private individuals.

Now he is trying it on me.

It’s not going to work.

I’ve seen authoritarianism in other countries where you can't criticize the guys in charge without getting a knock at the door in the middle of the night. As Americans, we understand the threat this poses to our democracy.

And you probably understand that we need to fight back -- legally and politically. Unfortunately, that takes resources. So while everyone who knows me knows I wish I didn't have to ask ... that's what I have to do.
