Dear John:

I’m about to ask you to make an urgent donation to People’s Action, but first I want you to understand the crisis we are in.

Last night at midnight, the federal eviction moratorium expired. Today is the last day for enhanced unemployment payments in 49 states. Tomorrow is the last day for payments in the final state, New York.

Tens of millions of people just lost the only lifelines they had in this economic crisis caused by the billionaires’ pet politicians.

Trump and McConnell did the bidding of hedge fund and private equity billionaires when they tried to force open the economy too soon, and they’re doing their bidding now by trying to force everyone back to work before it’s safe.

Our country has the resources to keep people in their homes until the pandemic is under control. But right now our government is in the hands of cruel people who don’t want us to be able to survive without making a profit for billionaires. They want us to suffer until we give up and go back to workplaces where we could catch a deadly disease. It’s that simple.

We don’t have to take this. And we won’t.

Can I count on you to make a contribution right now–especially today, when so many are about to lose so much–as a way of saying you’ve had enough of the cruelty and greed of the billionaires during this pandemic?

People’s Action members are fighting back in communities all across the country. We’re holding socially distanced rallies, taking direct nonviolent action, hosting online events, and calling and writing to our legislators by the tens of thousands. And we’re building a powerful texting and phone canvassing program to elect leaders who stand with us, not Goldman Sachs. We can win this, but only if we pull together.

In solidarity,

Bree Carlson
