The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans will hear the Texas Ten Commandments case brought by the ACLU in FIVE days on January 20, 2026. Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi make up what is considered the 5th Circuit. The entire court of 17 active judges will decide this case. Members of the Texas Values law and policy team will be present holding a Press Conference at the court hearing in New Orleans.
Recently, the federal appeals court approved the filing of Texas Values' friend of the court "amicus brief" on behalf of Texas State Senator Phil King and Texas State Representative Candy Noble (the legislators who filed and championed the passage of the Texas Ten Commandments law in 2025) supporting the Texas Ten Commandments law at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The legal amicus brief was filed on December 23rd, but the ACLU opposed the filing of the brief (which is highly unusual in such cases) requiring the court to issue an order on this matter specifically. The legal amicus brief filed by Texas Values can be found here.
Texas Values Attorney Jonathan Saenz released the following quote:
“It is an honor to represent the Texas Ten Commandment law authors Senator Phil King and Representative Candy Noble in this important friend of the court (amicus) legal brief supporting this important law in court. We trust that the federal 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will agree with the historical and traditional value of the Ten Commandments and allow the law to stand.”
The Texas Values Legal and Policy team members will be present at the January 20th en banc hearing at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana. Read more about the Breaking News here.

Special Guest Gene Mills, President of Louisiana Family Forum, and host Jonathan Saenz, President & Attorney for Texas Values, discuss the Texas Ten Commandments case at the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans happening next week. |
"‘Who could be opposed to the Ten Commandments?’ Western Civilization has thrived under this foundation that we found right there in the Ten Commandments.
I think this is a new day, and we have a new opportunity to restore to the foundation, the very foundational principles that make America great and make it work as well.
People believe that the Decalogue and the Ten Commandments can provide insight and boundaries and moral parameters for the next generation in addition to its historical context." ~ Gene Mills

The Texas Primary (March 2026) and General Elections (November 2026) will be a major focus as we have two ways that we give information to Texas Voters:
(1) Texas Values iVoterGuide/Free Voters Guide website and resource for information and ratings for candidates, and;
(2) our Texas Values Action endorsements. Our Free Voters Guide website (powered by iVoterGuide) is the most widely used website in Texas!!
At Texas Values, we use the word “influence” every day at the Texas Legislative session and at city council and school board meetings by testifying at hearings, talking directly to elected officials and staff, standing in the gap for our values, providing key analysis and guidance on court cases and legal matters, finding people who have personal connections to our issues and making sure they can tell their stories to elected officials, and so much more. Our influence, with your support was so huge during the 2025 Texas Legislative Session and special sessions. Read more about the Impact YOU made in Texas on our webpage and the major pieces of legislation we led the effort to pass.
Jonathan Saenz, President and Attorney for Texas Values, released the following statement:
“While this was a rough year with the loss of great leaders like Dr. James Dobson and Charlie Kirk, we would like to take a moment to recognize what an unbelievable year this has been for faith, family, & freedom values in Texas. With the incredible values-focused legislative victories to the long-awaited victorious court rulings, we couldn’t have asked for a better year. The momentum is on our side into 2026 and we look forward to what will come in the new year.”
