Commerce announces 47 awards to launch 2,461 affordable housing units statewide
Funding is from the state Housing Trust Fund and federal programs
The Washington State Department of Commerce announced 47 awards from the state and federal Housing Trust Funds that will help finance affordable housing construction and rehabilitation in 19 counties in Washington. The funding, totaling $208.3 million in state and federal funding, will result in 2,461 units of affordable housing statewide. These awards will supplement funding from sources such as cities, counties, traditional bank loans, and low-income housing tax credits.

These awards are the result of a rigorous evaluation process, in which 47 of 112 applications were recommended for funding. The state investment is $204 million for 45 awards, and the federal investment is $4.2 million for two awards.
Applications were in response to two separate funding opportunities and came from community-based organizations, nonprofit housing assistance organizations, tribes and local housing authorities. Total requests for funding from state and federal sources topped $538 million, a record amount.

These applications were submitted to respond to two Notice of Funding Availabilities (NOFAs) released in July 2025: HTF-MFR NOFA #MHU-2025-01 [ [link removed] ] and HOME & NHTF NOFA #MHU-2025-02 [ [link removed] ].
These funds, once awarded, will allow award recipients to develop or preserve affordable housing, in some cases prioritizing those who earn 30% or less of the area median income. Future residents of these buildings may include people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans, families with dependent children, people affected by medical challenges, and adults impacted by structural forces like poverty and racism.
Affordable housing funding opportunities are released multiple times per year on the Multifamily Rental Housing webpage [ [link removed] ] and the Commerce with Contracting webpage [ [link removed] ].
