There’s less than one month until the 2026 SAM Good Drug Policy Summit! 2025 saw massive changes around drug policy, from the bipartisan triumph of the federal hemp ban to the worrying decision President Trump made toward rescheduling marijuana. We are honored to have Doug Simon as a featured keynote speaker for our 2026 Summit. Doug is the Director of the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy Compliance (ODAPC) at the U.S. Department of Transportation. At ODAPC, he oversees the critical mission of developing and executing drug and alcohol testing policies for transportation workers in safety-sensitive positions. Doug will be providing a presentation on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s drug testing program, which is the gold standard for corporate drug testing worldwide.
Our Leadership Dinner
After the Summit’s first day concludes, SAM and the Foundation for Drug Policy Solutions will be hosting their annual Leadership Dinner: An opportunity for attendees to hear from policymakers, affected families, and leading thinkers in the addiction and public health space in an intimate and relaxed setting. You can register or find out more below.
The dinner convenes senior leaders for candid, high-level conversation about the future of drug policy and advocacy. This event strengthens relationships, aligns strategy, and helps sustain the long-term capacity of both organizations to influence national decision-making.

Smart Approaches to Marijuana ([link removed]) (SAM) is an alliance of organizations and individuals dedicated to a health-first approach to marijuana policy. We are professionals working in mental health and public health. We are bipartisan. We are medical doctors, lawmakers, treatment providers, preventionists, teachers, law enforcement officers and others who seek a middle road between incarceration and legalization. Our commonsense, third-way approach to marijuana policy is based on reputable science and sound principles of public health and safety.
The Foundation for Drug Policy Solutions ([link removed]) (FDPS) is a national drug policy think/action tank whose vision is a world in which children and families thrive, substance use is prevented, and there is rapid access to quality treatment. From prevention and recovery to smart law enforcement and better international cooperation, we are working to change the face of drug policy. Too many people are losing their lives to addiction. It is time for big change.
