Last week’s House vote on the Affordable Care Act, where 17 Republicans joined every single Democrat to renew ACA premium tax credits, shows that there is broad bipartisan support for lowering Americans’ healthcare costs.

But in the Senate, Republicans are actively filibustering a clean extension of the subsidies―stopping a bill that would easily pass with a majority of Senators.

Rising out-of-pocket costs are on the minds of each and every household across the country―Democratic, Republican, and independent alike. And Americans for Tax Fairness research shows that any minor tax savings that working families might expect to receive from the Trump-GOP tax scam will be completely wiped out by rising healthcare costs.[1]

Demand the Senate take up and pass the House-passed discharge petition to renew the ACA premium tax credits to lower out-of-pocket healthcare costs for tens of millions of people who get their health insurance through the ACA exchange.

Due to obstruction by Senate Republicans, healthcare costs skyrocketed starting January 1st.

A single 45-year-old earning $62,000 who gets their health insurance through the ACA exchange will pay $1,470 in higher health insurance premiums this year, negating 98% of their expected $1,500 tax cut. But it’s far worse for older Americans and families.

A 60-year-old couple earning $82,000 a year will see their health insurance costs rise by $18,400 this year while a family of four earning $126,000 will see an $8,400 increase.

Congressional Republicans’ reckless decision to pass their Big Ugly Bill that hands trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the rich and corporations, but that neglected to renew the ACA premium tax credits, is a direct assault on working families and our communities―tearing healthcare and nutrition assistance away from millions while further enriching the richest 1%.
