Dear Friends,

After House Republican leadership refused to act on extending ACA tax credits, I signed a bipartisan discharge petition to force a vote on providing health care cost relief to Americans for three more years.

Last week, I proudly joined every House Democrat and 17 House Republicans to keep health care affordable for nearly 142,000 South Texas seniors, veterans, and working families who have already seen their monthly costs skyrocket. This bill now heads to the Senate, where I urge my colleagues to quickly get this across the finish line!

MAJOR WIN: $4.7 Million in Funding to Expand Mental Health Services in South Texas Schools

Image

Schools should be safe havens where students feel empowered to seek support for the challenges they face at home or in the classroom.

This week, I announced $4,790,545 in federal funding over the next four years for the Region One Education Service Center to expand mental health services for nearly 16,000 students across 34 campuses in South Texas, including Mercedes Independent School District (ISD), Raymondville ISD and Rio Hondo ISD. With this funding, our schools will have additional resources to support students across our region.

Standing in Solidarity with IAM Union - Local 2340
Urging Good Faith Contact Negotiations for NAS Kingsville Workers

Image

As the Member of Congress who represents nearly 700 V2X contractors in Kingsville, Texas, who are also members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Union Local 2340, I understand the importance of contract negotiations. Contract workers at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville are key to supporting the maintenance of aircraft and daily operations.

However, with the current agreement between V2X and these workers set to expire this month, I reached out to  V2X’s President and CEO, Jeremy C. Wensinger,  to encourage that all parties involved commit to bargaining in good faith and move toward a timely and fair resolution that supports the economic well-being of their workers and our community.
A copy of the letter can be found HERE.
