The midterm year is here—and Ground Truth is expanding in a big way.
Beginning Saturday, January 24th, everyone, everywhere across the country
can take part in a Ground Truth canvass or phone bank to help Democrats
win back power, starting with the House.
[ [link removed] ]Ground Truth is Swing Left’s most ambitious program ever in service of
that goal. It’s an innovative, volunteer-powered program that’s
fundamentally transforming how Democrats connect with voters to win
elections.
That includes new tech, broader targeting, and better scripts that center
listening first to rebuild trust. Because before we can persuade, we have
to listen.
This is a massive shift in how Democratic campaigns have traditionally
contacted voters in the lead up to an election. It could wholly change
practices for the better—and help break Republican control in 2026, 2028,
and beyond—if we mount Ground Truth in the right races and at the scale we
need to win.

This year, Swing Left is laser-focused on winning a Democratic majority in
the U.S. House to put a material check on the Trump agenda. Our mission is
to help volunteers and donors strategically channel their time or money to
make a difference in the most competitive races—the ones that will
determine control of Congress.
We created and tested Ground Truth because we found that most campaigns
start too late, rely on transactional, one-way conversations, and target
only “likely” voters—missing critical persuadable voters in the process.
In contrast, Ground Truth has started earlier than ever and is going big
by talking to all voters, not just likely Democrats. Volunteers knock
every door in a swing district and ask open-ended questions, listening
deeply to voters’ real-world concerns—including the specific challenges
facing their communities.
Using brand-new technology, we then share these on-the-ground insights and
rich data directly with the most competitive Democratic House campaigns
and party committees, strengthening their messaging, targeting, and
outreach when it can still change outcomes.
After conducting pilot canvasses last fall, this is the first time Ground
Truth will be available to volunteers all across the country, and next
weekend marks the official kickoff of this work for 2026.
In the coming days and weeks, you’ll hear from us about specific ways to
get involved, which may include:
* Hosting a Ground Truth canvass in [ [link removed] ]one of 33 swing districts that
will be key to flipping the House. This is a high-impact way to help
expand the Ground Truth program to more neighborhoods and reach more
voters. Swing Left’s organizing team will support you every step of
the way, providing canvass training, guidance in deciding where to
knock doors, and help recruiting attendees.
* Attending a Ground Truth canvass to knock doors and listen to voters.
If you live in—or can travel to—a swing district, you’ll be doing
important work gathering rich insights about voters’ concerns and
priorities.
* Attending a virtual Ground Truth phone bank, if traveling to a swing
district isn’t an option for you. These calls will use the same Ground
Truth approach as an in-person canvass: calling every voter in a swing
district and asking open-ended questions to understand what matters
most to them.
Already, Swing Left groups and volunteers have posted 18 Ground Truth
canvasses in swing districts across the country—and this is just the
beginning. To fully realize the potential impact of this program, we’ll
need many more canvass hosts, volunteers, and donors stepping up early. To
truly transform how Democrats connect with voters, it’s going to take all
of us.
