The House just passed a three-year extension of the ACA subsidies. Every Virginia Democrat voted yes. Every Virginia Republican voted no.
For the more than 400,000 Virginians who get their insurance through the marketplace, premiums have already gone up by an average of 21%. Some families are seeing increases over 100%. Aetna dropped out of the Virginia market entirely, leaving nearly 14,000 people scrambling for new coverage.
The bill now goes to the Senate. If Republicans block it, Virginians will keep paying higher costs through 2026 and beyond.
Open enrollment closes tomorrow. Anyone still deciding on coverage should know that Congress could still act, but there are no guarantees.
