KCC will hold a public hearing on Reno County transmission line next week in Hutchinson
TOPEKA – The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has scheduled a public hearing on Evergy’s application for approval to site a 15-mile, 345 kV electric transmission line in Reno County. The proposed line would connect the future McNew natural gas plant, located near South McNew Road and Highway 50, to the existing Reno County Substation.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21 at the Hutchinson Community College Stringer Fine Arts Center located at 600 E. 11th Avenue in Hutchinson. At the hearing, Kansas residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed route, ask questions and make public comments to the Commission. The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m.
Prior to each hearing, Commission Staff and Evergy representatives will be present at an Open House to answer questions and discuss maps of the proposed route. The open house will run from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Anyone unable to attend in person may participate in the hearing by Zoom with advance zoom registration required by noon the day prior to the hearing. The Commission is also accepting written comments through 5 p.m. CST, January 26, 2026.
