For weeks leading up to the Venezuela strikes, and in the days following it, the MAGA movement has gone through insane mental gymnastics to justify their illegal strikes. 

They tried and failed to make a flimsy case that Venezuela was a “narco-terrorist state” and that this somehow meant that we were at war with them. However, they now appear to have given up on that too…

A recent post from Matt Walsh, Lauren Boebert’s favorite "political philosopher”, whom she cited this fall for saying that God gives MAGA permission for fascist rule, embodies how MAGA is now explaining the strikes:

Beyond the egregious homophobia, this should worry all of us because if international law is “fake and gay” what is stopping them putting this label on US domestic law and throwing that out too? 

Writing on this, progressive journalist Jonathan Last, rightly asks: “If they have the most guns—if they have the most power—why should they be constrained by some fake and gay laws about “elections” or the “transfer of power?”

If it wasn’t clear already it should be now, if Trump or his appointed successor lose in 2028 they will not honor the results. 

And if that happens, Lauren Boebert, just like she did in 2020, will be pushing for insurrection to invalidate the results. The only difference between now and 2020 is that MAGA has learned that they will be able to get away with seizing power… 

Trisha Calvarese is Boebert’s Democratic opponent, and she just massively outraised her. In ‘24 when they last faced off, Trisha over-performed VP Harris by 6 points despite a red wave, and had the best performance a Democrat has ever had in this district, whereas Boebert trailed far behind Trump in every county.
