First, Kansas Republicans followed Texas's lead last year and tried to redraw its congressional map to make every single district a Republican one.

Then, that plan hit the skids as voter outrage and a bipartisan group of lawmakers prevented a special session from being called to pass that gerrymander. And earlier this month, one Republican leader said they still don't think they have the votes in the state house.

It could not be clearer: State after state, the fair maps movement has proven that we can throw sand in the gears of Donald Trump’s power grab.

But now, some Republicans in Kansas are still hoping to deliver an all-Republican delegation to President Trump in the midterms. Kansas’s legislative session just started, and the word around Topeka is that the senate is expected to try to push through an extreme gerrymander in spite of the lack of votes in the house and under threat of a governor’s veto. That's just how desperate Republicans are to avoid the will of the people in the midterm elections.
