John,
When Missouri Rep. Wesley Bell got on the bandwagon and condemned ICE for killing Renee Good last week, his Justice Democrats-endorsed primary challenger and former member of Congress, Cori Bush, rightfully called him out for his hypocrisy:
Last June, Bell was one of 75 establishment Democrats who joined Republicans and voted to express “gratitude” to ICE for “protecting the homeland.” Now, he’s trying to change his tune.
When questioned about it on a local news interview this week, Bell got defensive and struggled to come up with an excuse to justify his vote. He then refused to say whether he would support the same resolution if it came up for a vote today.
In Cori’s words, “St. Louis needs and deserves a leader who understands that ICE must be abolished to keep our communities safe. Voting to praise the agency, and being unable to explain why, is completely unacceptable. We need leadership who is unafraid to vote to impeach Trump and abolish ICE NOW.”
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
