John,
As we reflect on the extraordinary leadership and lasting legacy of Governor James B. Hunt, Jr., I’m honored to share a new annual award that is deeply meaningful to The Hunt Institute.
Governor Hunt, the founder of The Hunt Institute, was widely recognized as one of the nation’s most influential education leaders. He devoted his career to expanding opportunity for children and families and to strengthening public education across the full continuum. As Governor Hunt often reminded us, “Education can’t be just another thing we do. It’s the most important thing we do.” That belief continues to guide our work today.
In that spirit, The Hunt Institute is proud to announce the establishment of the Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. Leadership Award, which will be presented annually. This award will recognize policymakers or state agencies that have made a meaningful, lasting impact on education.
