Major Funding for Law Enforcement

Friday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

There’s no better way to say THANK YOU than providing our police officers with the resources they need.

Last week, I secured over $22 million in funding for law enforcement across our district. This funding was delivered through my work on the House Appropriations Committee and will be used to improve public safety across South and West Texas. Read more below!

New Water Improvements in TX-23

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Energy and Water budget bill for 2026.

Through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I secured $2.5 million for water infrastructure projects in Bexar and Uvalde counties. These important funds will greatly improve access to water in agricultural communities and expand wastewater services where they are needed the most.

On the Road in TX-23

Crystal City Eagle Pass Del Rio

After a busy week in Washington, I spent Friday on the road in TX-23, meeting with constituents on the ground.

I started the day at the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Luncheon, organized by the Zavala and Dimmit County Sheriff's departments.

Recently, $250,000 was awarded to Zavala County to hire more police officers, in addition to $207,000 for Crystal City. I will always fight to support our men and women behind the badge.

Afterwards, I headed to Eagle Pass to meet with Port of Eagle Pass Director Pete Beattie.

I've been hard at work in Congress to make sure our international bridges are well-staffed and in the best shape possible.

I recently introduced legislation to modernize infrastructure at U.S. land ports of entry and in the surrounding communities that rely heavily on access to trade.

Friday afternoon, I also met with a wonderful Head Start program in Del Rio, Texas. My sincere thanks go out to Irene C. Cardwell Elementary School for hosting me and allowing me to tour the campus and address their Head Start students.

As C0-Chair of the Head Start to Congress Caucus and a former Head Start kid myself, it was great to see this important work being done in Del Rio.

While in Del Rio, I also visited the U.S. Border Patrol Del Rio Sector Headquarters to receive an update from Chief Patrol Agent Scott Good.

It was great hearing from our Border Patrol Agents on the frontlines. Through the Working Families Tax Cut Act, I helped secure a historic level of funding, over $170 billion, to support immigration enforcement, border security, and hire and train additional Border Patrol Agents to keep our communities safe.

I then met with Del Rio Mayor Al Arreola and City Manager Shawna Burkhart to discuss important priorities for the city this year.

We covered important topics like water infrastructure and airport service. I look forward to working together and continuing to deliver results.

Finally, I met with Val Verde Commissioner Juan Carlos Vazquez and local stakeholders.

Always appreciate meeting with our TX-23 leaders on the ground to learn how we can continue advancing priorities for the communities we share.
