Hi team,

This is Erin Conway, the DNC’s Grassroots Fundraising Director. I oversee our entire grassroots fundraising operation (which includes approving messages like this one!).

And if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that when a big election year begins, campaigns and organizations ramp up the number of messages they’re sending.

So I’ll be transparent with you: We know that you might be on other lists that send panicked, scammy emails trying to scare you into giving money. They might treat you like their own personal ATM. The closer we get to the midterms, the more the scare tactics will increase.

So we wanted to send a quick reminder of what we believe at the DNC:

- You are the backbone of our organization’s work, but you are not an ATM machine. We know that this work only happens when our team believes in it, and we make that our top priority.
- We don’t want you to feel intimidated into donating. We want to provide information about the work your money powers that makes you want to join us.
- We don’t expect you to donate to every email we send, so we do our best to provide accurate and up-to-date information about our work so that you can make the most informed decision possible before donating your hard-earned money to this cause.

So here’s the topline:

The DNC is the organization best positioned to distribute resources when and where they’re needed most.

We send money to candidates and state parties across the Democratic ecosystem, and our main priority is to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and in every corner of the country who will fight to make life easier and more affordable for all Americans.

Members of our team are experts in what they do, and spend their time at the DNC strategizing to organize, fight, and win across the country.

Our fundraising goals are set intentionally to ensure that we have the resources to continue that work.

When you receive an email from the DNC asking for your support, we hope you remember it was written and sent with these beliefs in mind. Your contribution today will help us make early investments in key states, scale up our organizing efforts, and ensure Democrats across the country have the resources to work towards winning the midterms in November.
