Email from Organization Name John, Today the Environmental Protection Agency made a bonechilling announcement that it will no longer calculate how many lives can be saved and only the cost to business when deciding pollution limits:     This is stuff straight out of dystopian fiction novels. Studies show that upwards to 200,000 people a year die prematurely from pollution related illnesses and that's under the current rules. The EPA is effectively now allowing businesses to conduct mass murder to boost profits. This is what happens when corporations and billionaires capture our government. And they move forward with these acts of violence because they know their kids won’t be the ones to die from the consequences of their actions. The poor, communities of color, and other marginalized people are at higher risk of pollution-related illnesses. And that’s intentional. It’s all by design. Subjecting people to deadly pollution is a policy decision. These are the people they are willing to sacrifice at the altar of late-stage, dystopian capitalism. Illinois’ 9th Congressional District is one of the most diverse districts in the entire country and is above the US average when it comes to air pollution. This is an attack on our community. The people need a champion who will fight for clean air and against corporate polluters. That’s what environmental justice means, and that’s what I’ll do when I get to Congress. But first, I need to defeat the billionaires and corporations circling this race like vultures, looking to buy this seat and prop up their chosen candidate who will serve them, not the people. It is going to take everything we have to defeat them.
