It has been an incredibly hard week for our country, including for the people of Minnesota, a state where I once worked and lived. And here in Maryland, we continue to see too many families separated and communities scared.
I will continue to do all I can to advocate for the safety and privacy of our residents and to continue to share a positive message about our immigrant brothers and sisters — to remind others that we are stronger as a state because we attract amazing people here from around the globe to live, work, play, and call Maryland home.
What our President, Vice President, and the current federal administration are doing to separate families isn’t just deplorable and a stain on our country’s history — it’s a terrifying example of systematic family separation and intimidation, including of children and our most vulnerable community members.
As Comptroller, I will continue to raise my voice in support of our immigrant neighbors and spread the message about the importance of Maryland’s diversity. No matter their country of origin, every Marylander deserves privacy and safety.
I want to thank everyone who is speaking out, standing up, and doing what they can to protect our communities’ children and families — whether they were born here or not. Your courage and compassion give me hope.
As we enter the legislative session, I look forward to supporting our General Assembly members in their important work to build a state that is more equitable, more resilient, and more prosperous so that every Marylander can reach their full potential.
Thank you for all you do! Onwards.
My very best,
