This year communities across the country will elect people to tens of thousands of local offices. These races decide what our schools teach, how our neighborhoods are policed, and who has a voice at the local level.

Too many of these seats go uncontested. And when no one steps up, MAGA extremists do.

They’re not winning because they’re popular — they’re winning because they’re the only ones on the ballot. School boards. Sheriff’s offices. City councils. This is how power quietly shifts.

At The Union, we believe democracy doesn’t run on autopilot. It takes people — neighbors, organizers, parents, workers — deciding to step in and lead. That’s how we close the gaps and protect our communities.

That’s why we’re proud to join Contest Every Race — our newest partner — alongside other aligned organizations to host “Ready to Run,” a virtual rally on January 15, featuring Governor JB Pritzker and other special guests.

This is a call to action for anyone who’s ever thought:
“Someone should do something.”
And maybe realized — that someone could be you!

If you’ve ever wondered whether running for office is possible, practical, or worth it, this rally is for you. We’ll talk about what it really takes, why it matters, and how everyday people can step into leadership.
