Hi John,
Since the 1970s we’ve relied on stronger standards to encourage the auto industry to improve gas mileage — resulting in more efficient, more powerful and safer vehicles.
But now the Trump administration wants to reverse this progress by substantially weakening U.S. fuel economy standards. This reckless decision would only waste gas, cost Americans money and put more pollution in the air we breathe. But with your help we can push back.
Before the administration can finalize this rollback, they must hear from the public. Will you help us defend these standards by submitting a public comment to the Department of Transportation?

Vehicles on our roads are a leading source of air and climate pollution – responsible for 28% of all U.S. climate emissions. It’s a big problem, but one that we’ve made progress on through strong fuel economy standards.
In 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration updated our nation’s fuel economy standards, urging automakers to set a goal of roughly 50.4 miles per gallon for their fleet of cars and passenger trucks by model year 2031.
NHTSA estimates that by 2050 these standards would:
arrow bullet Save owners more than $600 on gas over the lifetime of a car or passenger truck (even more for a heavy-duty truck or van).
arrow bullet Prevent more than 710 million metric tons of climate pollution from getting into our air.
arrow bullet Save almost 70 billion gallons of gasoline!
But the administration’s proposal would throw that progress into reverse, undermining innovation and investment in the auto industry, forcing Americans to spend more money at the gas pump, and resulting in fewer clean vehicle options for consumers.
It’s a bad deal for our pocketbooks, our lungs and the planet. Don’t let the Trump administration increase costs and pollution! Submit a public comment to the DOT today supporting strong fuel economy standards now!
