![]() I’ll be honest: a lot of naysayers never thought I’d make it to Congress. Even today, right-wing commentators still don’t believe I can raise two young boys and serve my constituents effectively at the same time. But I’m used to being underestimated. Growing up, no one expected a kid like me to make it to Congress. My mom was a hairdresser, and my dad worked in construction — not the typical upbringing for your average politician in Washington. When I served in the state legislature, no one expected me to lead the charge to pass the strongest Equal Pay for Equal Work Act in the country. Even now in Congress, Republicans expected me to just roll over — to sit in silence as they try to rig the system for their rich and powerful friends. But I’m not staying silent. I’m not giving in. And I’m ready to prove all those doubters wrong on Election Day.
