An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino

SPOTLIGHT

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

This week, on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we recognized the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. From local police officers and sheriff’s deputies to federal law enforcement and first responders, their dedication and sacrifice deserve our deepest respect and gratitude.

As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, I remain committed to making sure law enforcement has the tools and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. Long Island is safer because of their service, and we are grateful for all they do.

ANDREW IN THE NEWS

Andrew Discusses 2026 Priorities in National Media Interviews

"This week, Andrew joined media row to sit down with the New York Post and Fox News Radio to discuss his priorities for 2026 as Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

During the conversations, Andrew highlighted his focus on strengthening border security, combating terrorism, defending cybersecurity, and ensuring New York and Long Island have the federal resources needed to keep communities safe."

WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02

Casework Highlight: Honoring a Veteran’s Service

Helping Long Islanders navigate federal agencies is one of the most important parts of Andrew’s job. Recently, a constituent reached out after her grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, passed away. During Hurricane Sandy, his military medals were lost and destroyed, and the family hoped to replace them in his memory.

Our district team worked quickly to secure replacement medals, which were proudly delivered in time for a very Merry Christmas. It was an honor to help recognize this veteran’s service and support his family.

As we begin 2026, Andrew and his team look forward to helping even more Long Islanders get the assistance they need. Whether it’s the VA, Social Security, Medicare, the IRS, passports, or other federal services, the office is always ready to step in and help. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS

Andrew introduced the USMMA Athletics Act

Andrew introduced the USMMA Athletics Act to modernize and strengthen athletic programs at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The legislation would allow the Academy to better support its student-athletes and operate on equal footing with other federal service academies, ensuring USMMA remains a strong national asset for generations to come.

Andrew Votes to Advance Affordable Housing

Andrew voted to pass bipartisan legislation that cuts unnecessary red tape for manufactured homes by putting one federal agency in charge instead of two. By removing duplicative rules that drive up costs, this bill helps keep manufactured housing more affordable, an important step for families in high-cost areas like Long Island.

Bipartisan Support for Metastatic Breast Cancer Legislation

Andrew’s bipartisan Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act received an endorsement from the Problem Solvers Caucus, a major step forward in cutting red tape for patients facing metastatic breast cancer. On Long Island, where breast cancer rates are among the highest in the nation, eliminating unnecessary waiting periods for disability benefits and insurance coverage is especially urgent. Andrew is proud to work with Jimmy Panetta and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to deliver timely, compassionate support for patients and families.
