John,

General Colin Powell knows what it takes to navigate a crisis. As a retired
four-star general, former U.S. Secretary of State, and Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff with decades spent in public service, he has seen his share of
challenges. Yesterday, he joined a virtual convening of mayors and experts,
that Mike brings together monthly, to share what he's learned with local
leaders responding to the social and economic fallout from COVID-19.

His advice for mayors and local leaders? When you're dealing with a
challenge, start by gathering as much information and expertise as possible:

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Mike has been focused on supporting
local response efforts and connecting mayors and public health experts
virtually to share solutions. Speakers at the sessions have included Vice
President Joe Biden, President Barack Obama, and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

General Powell's advice was in stark contrast to his assessment of what's
happening at the federal level. Speaking of the White House's pandemic
response, he said, "We're not doing that anymore in the administration or in
this government. There seemed to be no analysis of the decision that was made.
It seems like it just came flying on out, out of the White House or somewhere
else in government. This is not a good way to make decisions."

The comments from General Powell were especially resonant for the virtual
attendees, as they focus on finding solutions in an environment where many are
playing politics with COVID-19 data and undermining public health experts. It's
a message that is valuable for more than just mayors and local leaders. Will
you help us spread General Powell's thoughts far and wide by sharing with your
networks?
