Here’s what these incredible professional athletes are fighting for in their contract:
- Eliminating persistent inequities in pay, resources and working conditions.
- Receiving a meaningful share of the revenue their labor generates.
- Ensuring the opportunity for their share to grow as the business grows.
These negotiations have lasted for more than a year. And during that time, the league and the teams have put forward proposals after proposals that significantly undervalue the players, look to increase their workload by increasing the number of games and length of a season, and lock the players out of any meaningful career and salary growth to secure their futures.
But in the union, there is strength. We need your help right now to speak out for our fellow workers, and for pay equity and fairness. Together, we can stand up to a system that has underpaid, undervalued and underestimated women basketball players for generations.
Contact WNBPA team owners and commissioners before their Jan. 9 deadline.
It is way past time for women athletes to be valued in sports. Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
Team AFL-CIO
