Hi John,
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a self-proclaimed “devout evangelical Christian,” believes in the Rapture. He’s invoked the Book of Revelation to justify the extrajudicial killing of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani. He’s even suggested that Donald Trump could be the rebirth of Old Testament royalty, reincarnated to save the Jewish people from Iran.
And now, even more frighteningly, Secretary Pompeo has set his sights on human rights -- and on re-defining them through the lens of his own religious fervor.
With the help of a new panel called the Commission on Unalienable Rights, Pompeo is using religious freedom as a cudgel to chip away at human rights across the country and the globe -- he’s already cut funding to foreign aid for medical groups overseas that even discuss abortion services.
And Pompeo’s panel is filled with members who’ve vociferously opposed LGBTQ+ equality some describing gay marriage as a “radical social experiment” and “one of the signs of the End Times.”
Unfortunately, the rest of the Trump administration seems to agree.
They’ve already proposed rolling back LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections in the Affordable Care Act. They’ve allowed federally-funded adoption agencies to deny parents and families based on religious beliefs. And Trump’s handpicked justices have ruled to deny contraceptive coverage to thousands of employees on the basis of religion.
This onslaught against human rights can’t go any further.
With your help, we can end the anti-human rights agenda of the Trump administration. We can hold our leadership accountable by forcing their dark ideology into the light -- and by supporting officials who will stand against religious bigotry in all its forms. But we’re falling short of our $5,000 fundraising goal -- so please, if you’re as horrified as we are by the apocalyptic views of this administration, give what you can now -- and help us take our country back from the radicals trying to turn some of our fellow Americans into second-class citizens. The next three months are crucial in determining the future of our country. We’re incredibly grateful for your contribution. We promise to make it count.
