| Friend, Donald Trump sending U.S. forces into Venezuela without Congressional authorization or notification to remove its government is an unauthorized act of war. Acting without congressional authority is illegal, reckless, and puts our country at risk for broader conflict. That’s why, in December, I voted for two War Powers Resolutions to force President Trump to end all unauthorized U.S. hostilities in or against Venezuela. Join my re-election campaign, and together, we can make sure that Trump’s actions are held accountable. Donald Trump had repeatedly denied any intent to use military action to pursue regime change—but he did just that. Now, he plans to “run” Venezuela, which the U.S. doesn’t have any right to do. And he did this without any notice or approval. Nicolás Maduro is a dictator who has inflicted so much harm on Venezuela. But that does not give the President of the United States the power to send U.S. troops into another country without Congress's authorization. We must end this illegal military operation and make sure that Donald Trump doesn’t impulsively put the United States at further risk. —Doris Matsui As a Member of Congress, Doris works to ensure that the voices of her district’s constituents are heard in Congress, and fights for the needs of the Sacramento region.
