Over this past weekend, President Donald Trump launched a brazen attack against Venezuela and captured its president, Nicolas Maduro.
Maduro has caused suffering to Venezuelans and Americans alike. But Trump’s strikes — endorsed by the Republican Party — are reckless and unconstitutional. And they set a dangerous precedent that allows presidents to plunge our nation into war without Congressional approval.
As the daughter of two Air Force veterans, I take this personally. Because this isn’t some abstract conflict… it’s real, with real consequences for real people.
Our troops deserve leaders who think before they act. They deserve better than to be sent into harm’s way without any accountability or authorization.
But upholding the Constitution and protecting our troops shouldn’t be negotiable. They’re the bare minimum responsibilities, and yet, our leaders are still falling short.
That’s why I’m running for Congress – to stand up for our troops, our families, our farmers, and everyday workers who deserve better.
