It’s been five years since the insurrection mounted on our nation's Capitol, a day when our democracy faced unprecedented challenges.
I will remember watching those events unfold as long as I live. I was at the Capitol Complex on January 6th, serving as a Member of Congress to certify the Electoral College votes for the 2020 election. The violent attempt to overturn a free and fair election was a powerful reminder that our democratic institutions are only as strong as those who uphold our values; that their foundations crack when they are marred by political extremism and lies.
Five years later, we carry on the essential work of protecting our democracy, and it remains as important as ever. We must continue to defend the peaceful transfer of power and the integrity of our elections. We must ensure that no elected official ever again undermines our values.
I’ve stood up for our democracy while serving in the military, in Congress, and now as Attorney General. Our office serves as the last line of defense in keeping our administration accountable. I’m running for re-election because Marylanders deserve a leader that they can trust to uphold the rule of law. I will put our country first, every time.
Thank you for fighting with me for everything that our country stands for.
Onward,
Anthony Brown
Maryland Attorney General
