Friend –

Across the country, families are opening their health insurance bills and
realizing they can no longer afford to stay covered.

Premiums have surged. Coverage is vanishing. People who once had a path to
care are being priced out, pushed aside, or dropped altogether.

This crisis didn’t appear out of nowhere. Republicans in Congress let the
expanded ACA subsidies expire at the end of 2025, knowing exactly what it
would cost their constituents. Now, they are refusing to help fix the
damage.

The consequences have been immediate and severe. Families who previously
paid under $200 a month for marketplace coverage are now facing bills over
$900. Middle-income households have seen their premiums double. People
just above the eligibility cutoff are staring down annual costs close to
$8,500 – just to keep the same care they had last year.^[1]

For many, the choice has already been made for them: they are simply going
without care.

Nearly five million people are projected to lose their health insurance
altogether. More than seven million are expected to lose subsidized
coverage. In eight states – including Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, and
Louisiana – over half of those relying on subsidies may be pushed out of
the system altogether.^[ [link removed] ]

And still, Republicans refuse to act.

Democrats have a plan. The House is preparing to vote on it this week, so
a strong vote is very important. Then we move on to the Senate where
Republicans are refusing to join the effort to restore these critical
subsidies, even as the crisis worsens by the day.

[2]Sign the petition to tell Congress: renew the ACA subsidies before more
families are forced off coverage. >>

Republicans in the House must support the restoration of these critical
subsidies when they vote this week. And we must send a message to
Republicans in the Senate who refuse to move this measure that they are
choosing to let this suffering continue. They are choosing higher
premiums. They are choosing to push millions out of care. And they are
doing it with full knowledge of the harm they are causing.

They must be held accountable.

In solidarity,

People For the American Way
