Synthesis is a quick overview of our recent work, amplifying our partners' work, and sharing important environmental stories.
Happy New Year! Thank you for continuing to show up to protect people and nature. In 2025, we faced strong headwinds from the aggressive Trump Administration, but we continued to deliver on environmental progress and celebrate huge wins along the way. Let’s keep up the momentum for the year ahead.
In case you missed it: The Environmental Priorities Coalition (EPC) [[link removed]] will work on these four priorities:
Protect Climate and Environmental Health FundingRestore Wildfire Resilience FundingData Centers, Environmental Protection, and AffordabilityBottles and Cans Recycling Refund Act
For more than 20 years, the EPC has worked to safeguard our environment and the health of our communities through policy and budget advocacy at the Washington State Legislature. Your voice is critical to the success of these efforts. Let us know you’re in. [[link removed]]

Photo: TransAlta coal plant in Centralia by Earth Justice.
Last month, the Trump admin ordered the last coal plant in Washington to remain open, despite the state law requiring it to shut down by December 31, 2025. WCA helped negotiate this shutdown more than a decade ago. This bogus federal order only takes us backwards. Forcing a 50-year-old coal plant to stay open forces people to breathe dirtier, coal-polluted air and pay more in energy bills. WCA is committed to mobilizing against this reckless overreach. In December, we wrapped up our 9th annual Carbon Friendly Forestry Conference! The sold-out conference brought together forestry professionals, public officials, the building sector, and community members in the West Coast. We held a total of nine sessions about innovation in PNW forestry, including an update from Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands, Dave Upthegrove. We also launched our 10th annual forestry accountability report [[link removed]].
Despite efforts by the Trump Administration to cut funding and roll back climate policy, 30 states, including Washington, advanced major clean energy and affordability measures in 2025. The League of Conservation Voters’ latest Clean Energy For All report [[link removed]] details nationwide efforts to bring down costs and address the climate crisis through clean energy solutions.
