Wisconsin's Public Service Commission voted today to prevent utility companies from disconnecting electricity and other utility services. The state's moratorium on utility shutoffs was set to expire after tomorrow and now has been extended until September 1.

Our Wisconsin Revolution wrote to the PSC last week urging an extension of the shutoff moratorium. We started a letter writing campaign to make sure ours was not the only letter the agency received. We worked to get the media spotlight shined on the problem. And we networked with other groups in the state to coordinate the effort to pressure the PSC to act.

Thank you to all who joined our campaign and wrote to the PSC. Well over 70,000 households faced the loss of electricity, gas or water service after tomorrow, even as coronavirus infections continue to surge in Wisconsin and the number of known COVID-19 cases in the state skyrockets.
