"This is a little bit of Covid, a little bit of market dynamics over the long run," said Jones. Demand for aluminum cans was already strong before the pandemic. NBWA data shows that beer sold in cans accounted for 50% of all beer sold in 2010 and made up 60% in 2019.

"With concern levels remaining high and rising in hot spots around the country, most consumers are choosing to stay home, even as many non-essential businesses reopen," said Darian Pickett, CEO of Acosta. According to research from Acosta, many shoppers are making fewer trips to the grocery store and spending more on each trip as stocking up continues.
