2026 is a make or break election year for democracy.

All of the talking heads are talking about the House and Senate elections, and yes, those will be consequential. But here’s the truth most political pundits and election analysts are missing:

The fate of Democracy will also hinge on often overlooked and underappreciated state Supreme Courts races.

As MAGA witnessed the formation of a massive blue wave in 2025, they started working on desperate countermeasures, launching an all-out blitz of anti-democratic election rigging efforts at the state level—rewriting elections laws to make it harder for Democrats to vote and gerrymandering maps.

The constitutionality of their actions will ultimately be decided by state Supreme Courts. That means whoever controls these courts will control the fate of our Democracy:

32 states will have state Supreme Court elections in 2026 including the key swing states of Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, and Wisconsin. If MAGA loyalists capture these courts, they’ll green-light voter suppression and rigged maps as “constitutional”.

That’s why Defend Our Courts is stepping up once again. In 2025, when control of the PA Supreme Court was on the line, we helped lead the defense of the court and secure a 30+ point victory for the Democratic justices.

Now we’re taking that winning formula national.
