Washington, DC - As the new year begins, Congressman Van Drew is setting clear priorities for the work ahead in Congress, along with personal goals that keep him grounded and focused.
"A new year is a good time to refocus and push even harder on the issues that matter most," said Congressman Van Drew. "In Congress, one of my top priorities continues to be healthcare. I have been deeply involved in this fight, and in the year ahead I am stepping it up even more to lower costs and make sure people can afford the care they rely on. This is an issue that is felt by every person in our community, and we must do better.
"I am also making the cost of everyday life a top focus this year. That means continuing to fight high energy costs, outrageous utility bills, delivery fees, and other expenses that hit families month after month. People work hard, and they should not feel like they are falling behind just trying to keep up. I will keep standing up for our veterans by protecting their benefits, expanding access to healthcare, and supporting military families. When someone serves this country, we have a lifelong obligation to have their back. Public safety will remain front and center. I will continue to support law enforcement, push back on soft-on-crime policies, and fight for safe communities where people can raise their families without fear. I am also staying focused on common-sense infrastructure and transportation issues that matter here in South Jersey, from strengthening our aviation systems and protecting the FAA Technical Center, to protecting our beaches and investing in projects that make our communities safer and stronger.
"On a personal level, I believe in challenging yourself and not getting comfortable. This year, I am increasing my daily run from four and a half miles to five and a half miles, and raising my pull-up goals from 175 to 200 a day. Just as importantly, I am making a conscious effort to spend more quality time with my wife, kids, and grandkids. Small improvements make a real difference over time. That mindset applies whether you are talking about your health, your family, or the work of serving the people of South Jersey. That is the mindset I am bringing into this new year, and it is how I will keep fighting for South Jersey. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy New Year!"
