I’m reaching out today because I want you to know how grateful I am for your partnership in this work.
What we’re trying to do — regain a Democratic House majority, break the dangerous GOP trifecta in Washington, defeat the extremists who divide our country — is no easy feat. But every time I connect with this team, whether it’s in person, on the phone, or via email, I am reminded that if we work together, we can get this done.
The stakes are just so high. I remember in 2016, working on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, some people said our fears about a Donald Trump presidency were unfounded. That we were overreacting.
Today, we read story after story in newspapers across the country about women who are dying because of Trump’s abortion bans. We see innocent people being disappeared and families being ripped apart by masked ICE agents making unannounced raids in our communities. We walk by military troops deployed in our cities, patrolling our streets.
We all know that we have to keep taking action to defend our democracy and push back against this reckless and cruel administration.
But it’s not just fighting against Trump and his MAGA extremists. It’s fighting for what we believe in, too. The fundamental American values of freedom and equality. The kids who are counting on us to take action when they can’t. The belief that at the end of the day, no matter how divided we are — and no matter how divided the people in power want us to be — we will ultimately endure both hardships and successes together, as one people. And it’s up to us to find ways to connect, unite, and make progress.
We’ll all keep doing that work in our day to day lives, and I’ll keep pushing every single way I can in the House of Representatives. And next year, we’ll have the chance to make a bigger change — one that can actually stop some of these nightmares and protect our future.
