“I lived in Russia for a year and a half as a missionary. While living there, I became close with several women who had been formerly prostituted. It was the first time this issue stopped being a distant, abstract concept, something referenced in movies or news stories. It became very real,” she explained.
“These were women I knew and loved, and they were living with the daily aftermath of exploitation. I came home from Russia deeply affected, heartbroken, and determined to do something meaningful about what these women had endured.”
While in college, Layne looked for opportunities to try and combat these problems, but most of the work by mission-driven organizations, while good, was reactionary. She wanted to stop exploitation before it started.
“That’s when I discovered The National Center on Sexual Exploitation. Immediately, it felt different.”
At NCOSE, we’re focused on stopping sexual exploitation at its roots. Prevention is the key.
