In Suriname, Murat* was the religious leader of his village — and deeply opposed to the message of Jesus. When our partner, Pastor Erwin, first came to the village, he didn’t begin with arguments or debates. He began by serving.

After Pastor Erwin brought food to a family in crisis, the critically ill husband told him, “I’ve been waiting a long time for someone to tell me about Christ.” That day, both he and his wife placed their faith in Jesus — and pointed Pastor Erwin toward Murat.

Over time, Pastor Erwin kept returning with meals and other critical support. A relationship of trust grew. Two years later, Murat shared that he was ready to follow Jesus himself. Today, six people from this previously unreached village meet regularly for Bible study, with ongoing encouragement and teaching from Pastor Erwin and his church.

This is what patient, faithful ministry looks like — and why year-end support matters so much.
