Hi, I'll get right to it: I'm supporting Everytown because they are more committed than ever to fighting back against a gun lobby that wants more guns in more spaces that put more of our kids at risk.
Thirteen years ago to the month, the Sandy Hook shooting changed my life forever. Before I even knew the full scope of the tragedy, I felt what so many parents felt: shock, horror, disbelief, and the immediate fear of "How do I explain this to my children?" What I quickly learned was that shielding our children from the news won't keep them safe. Action will. I took action and brought together artists—actors, directors, writers, musicians—to use our platforms to push for stronger gun safety laws and support the volunteers who make up the heart of this movement. And this work has never been more urgent: gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and teens. But extremist lawmakers, backed by the gun lobby, continue to push for legislation that would weaken our gun laws in communities across the country. I refuse to accept a country where families fear gun violence in grocery stores, in classrooms, in movie theaters, at youth sporting events. I believe in a future where our kids can grow up safely, freely, and without fear—and I know you do too. But we will only get there if all of us keep fighting. That's why I'm asking: So, will you join me in supporting Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund with a generous gift?
