“This isn’t just about the funding, it’s about the partnership that we are building. You listen first, respecting our knowledge before setting any agenda; move away from rigid project grants and onerous reporting; and instead, provide us with multi-year flexible funding and you trust our leadership. This trust allows us to fund our core needs.” This reflection by Nadine Nembhard from our grantee ally, World Forum of Fisher Peoples, epitomizes what Grassroots International is all about.
The Nyéléni Global Forum – the beating heart of the food sovereignty movement – is one example of this partnership in action. Built on decades of organizing, the forum brought together over 700 social movement representatives from over 100 countries this past September. These movements exchanged analysis and experiences in the struggle for food sovereignty and protection of the Earth, and strategized on ways to strengthen these collective efforts across all regions of the globe in the years to come.
The rallying cry of “Systemic Transformation, Now and Forever!” was heard loud and clear at the Forum. |
