But as I look ahead to the new year, I’m gravely concerned about the future of Americans’ retirement and health security. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson appears determined to create a so-called “fiscal commission” tasked with finding spending cuts to Social Security and Medicare. |
For years, we’ve helped stave off the creation of a congressional commission that could recommend devastating benefit cuts, but this dangerous proposal could gain momentum in the weeks ahead. |
GOP hardliners have made it clear they have no problem going after seniors’ earned benefits even as millions of older Americans continue to struggle to afford the high cost of many of the goods and services they rely on. |
