Hello friend,

As the year comes to an end I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for being part of our campaigns in 2025. I'm also really delighted to be able to let you know that, by coming together, our community raised an incredible £66,322 through this year's Big Give Christmas Challenge  – much-needed funds that will go a long way to winning justice and cancelling debts in 2026.

Before I share my top three highlights with you, why not check out our new two-minute video for a snapshot of some of our best campaign moments this year?

friend, thank you for helping make 2025 an exceptional year. Here are my three takeaways from the last twelve months:

1. Getting closer to a new debt justice law in the Jubilee Year with the Cancel Debt, Choose Hope campaign

Our campaign for a new debt justice law has made great strides forward this year. Thanks to your campaigning – from signing petitions to joining rallies, and from meeting MPs to donating – the message that we need action on the debt crisis is louder than ever.

Thanks to growing pressure in parliament, a new debt justice law is now being considered by the government. The Scottish First Minister even mentioned our Cancel Debt, Choose Hope campaign in his recent address to Holyrood!

2. Standing in solidarity with people in lower-income countries

Jubilee 2025 has seen our biggest mobilisation in a generation! From Seville to Brazil, there have been massive protests and marches in the name of debt cancellation.

This summer we joined campaigners on the streets of Seville, as part of protests in over 40 countries, to demand action at a key United Nations conference. In London we set up a giant debt-themed game of Jenga on the banks of the River Thames to show how easily debt repayments can topple economies. Thanks to pressure from activists around the world, lower-income countries were able to get calls for debt justice laws into the final text of the UN agreement.

Thousands of us also came together in central London for a mass lobby of parliament. It was an incredible day, with people from across the country turning up to speak to their MPs about climate and debt.

With over 200,000 signatures on our global petition, we’re making our demands for debt cancellation impossible to ignore.

3. Launching our Ban the Bailiffs campaign

Since we launched our campaign to stop bailiff use, we’ve had an amazing response. Over 3,000 people have added their names to our petition and hundreds took part in a government consultation looking into what needs to change. Our campaign has been covered by the BBC, i news and Sunday Mirror, and we’re starting to make policymakers sit up and take notice.

Campaigning by our local group in Manchester has led to mayor Andy Burnham setting up a new taskforce with representatives from the 10 Greater Manchester local authorities to look at what can be done to address bailiff use and bring down council tax debt.

My personal highlight was during our launch stunt outside the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, where we delivered a giant repossession notice to ban the bailiffs. Our Head of Campaigns, Eva, was even mistaken for a bailiff! Sometimes our costumes are too good!
I could give another ten highlights, because together we have really achieved so much this year. Join in the celebration by sharing our two minute video on Facebook ([link removed]) , Instagram ([link removed]) , YouTube ([link removed]) and Bluesky ([link removed]) .

This year it was clear, when we come together, we can be powerful. And when we are powerful, things can change for the better.

There’s still lots to do, challenges to overcome and successes to celebrate. But thanks to you, friend, we have made incredible progress this year. Together, our collective power is a force to be reckoned with.

Every action you take and every donation you give helps us get one step closer to winning debt justice both at home and globally.

I wish you and your loved ones all the very best in the new year,

Heidi and all the Debt Justice team

PS. All our campaigning together is only possible thanks to our donors. If you’d like to make sure we can keep building on our successes of 2025 in 2026 and beyond, then why not set up a regular gift ([link removed]) ? Regular gifts of any size make a huge impact on our ability to keep campaigning effectively. And it only takes 2 minutes to set up.
