As we approach the end of the year, many Hechinger Report supporters are deciding when and how to make their annual charitable gifts, or whether to become first-time donors to our nonprofit newsroom, so we wanted to share one timely note for your consideration.

**Tax rules are changing:** Beginning in 2026, federal tax rules governing charitable deductions are scheduled to change. For some donors, particularly those who itemize deductions, a gift this year may carry a greater tax benefit than the same gift made after the new rules take effect.

We strongly encourage donors to review these resources and consult their own tax advisor, accountant, or financial planner to understand what these changes may mean for them personally.
