Florida’s unelected junior Senator Ashley Moody was hand-picked by Ron DeSantis as a “useful idiot” of sorts, someone who would pledge absolute, unquestioning loyalty to MAGA and to Trump’s divisive agenda. 

And in her very short time in office, she has already made her mark: within months of her swearing in, Moody gleefully voted to cut health care for over 4.3 million Floridians. 

Moody also continues to support a dangerous abortion ban in Florida, something that a majority of the people oppose.

But blind loyalty to MAGA comes with its own risks.

Donald Trump’s popularity is slipping hugely in Florida: most notably, there has been a massive shift among Latino and Hispanic voters—an absolutely crucial voting demographic in FL—showing Trump’s support cratering, down from a net positive approval rating as recently as March to a net -18 points underwater:

Ashley Moody is playing a dangerous game. Even conservative groups are sounding the alarm that voters don’t know her, don’t trust her, and they hate the policies she is pushing.

Trump’s liabilities threaten to drag Moody down. But it is our job to do the work to make it happen. 

We can put Florida’s Senate race in play next year and flip the Senate from red to blue—but only if we rally supporters everywhere to join us in this fight.
