First, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. It was a great time for us to spend time with our family and I hope everyone had a good time surrounded by family and friends as well. Even during the holidays, Citizens for Free Enterprise has been busy. CFFE's Arizona team organized local second-hand store owners and operators in Tucson to go to the city council meeting and oppose a 200% increase to the city's reportable transaction fee. This proposal would have substantially increased costs on vulnerable Tucsonans who rely on second hand stores to make ends meet. We also blasted Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for his latest bad idea: punishing job creators for hiring Chicagoans. Johnson is seeking to create a monthly “head tax” that will fine businesses for hiring people. Hasn't he already done enough to drive residents, businesses, and good-paying jobs out of the city? I also want to encourage you to take a moment to read this new piece from George Will. He praises the colleges and universities across the country who are reviving civics education. Leading the charge: ASU's School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership. We were proud to ignite this revolution in 2017 and I'm proud to see states and universities across the U.S. following Arizona's lead.
