The year ahead gives us a powerful opportunity: the midterm elections. It’s our chance to flip Congress, restore some semblance of balance in Washington, and build toward a future where our communities finally have partners — not adversaries — at the federal level.

Hi Friend —

As the New Year approaches, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of this movement.

This has been an eventful year, to say the least.

As oppressive oligarchs and corporate cruelty grow more extreme, San Diego continues to show what resilience looks like.

We are meeting the moment with clarity and purpose — stepping up to help each other through mutual aid, resisting policies designed to divide us, and doubling down on the values that keep us strong.

The year ahead gives us a powerful opportunity: the midterm elections. It’s our chance to flip Congress, restore some semblance of balance in Washington, and build toward a future where our communities finally have partners — not adversaries — at the federal level.

At home, my priorities for the coming year are clear:
I’ll also be getting more involved in state and national associations that bring together county level leaders, because the call to action is clear: If the federal government is going to abandon its responsibility to the people, then local leaders must step up and protect them.

Local government is our last line of defense.

These goals are only possible because of people who believe in community over chaos, compassion over cruelty, and democracy over division. People like you.

As we enter 2026, I’m hopeful. Hopeful because together, we have the courage to meet whatever comes next. And hopeful because we are not done — not by a long shot.

Thank you for being in this fight with me.
In community,
Monica

P.S. Forward this message to someone who has been having a hard time staying hopeful recently. Maybe they’ll look to 2026 with a bit more optimism.
